Actor Akshay Kumar, who was last seen in Padman, the menstruation drama nobody asked for, is ready to promote his next film Gold, a menstruation drama about India’s first Olympic gold medal win after Independence.
“Gold is a very special movie. I get to express the love I have for my political ambitions through the medium of mediocre cinema. What more can a guy ask for?” He said, in a recent interview.
Akshay Kumar has been known to make movies that hold value to the society and shame people into realising that women have toilet needs too.
“I am proud to admit that a large population of the country now believes that women are human too,” he said.
In Padman, Akshay Kumar took on the story of a real life genius who invented a machine that created low cost sanitary napkins, effectively changing the lives of thousands of women across the world. According to the actor, nobody but him could have done justice to the role.
“It’s not every day you get a chance to play the role of a pad,” he said. As the room full of journalists erupted in confusion, he clarified, “I mean, sanitary napkin.”
“As a country, our sensibilities are changing, and we have to change accordingly,” he said, “I was initially skeptical about playing the part, but I had to get past it to play the role that could possibly change the way pads are seen by women across India.”
According to the actor, he spoke to several pads to prepare for the role. “I wouldn’t say it proved to be entirely helpful, but at least all the pads from the #PadmanChallenge didn’t go to waste,” he said, “I don’t think anybody besides me could’ve played the role of a pad.”
When his publicist tries to interject and remind him that he played the role of the man who invented the pads, and not the pad itself, Akshay reminded her that he would know if he’d played a pad or not.
He then gave a rousing rendition of the National Anthem and left without saying a word.
