A crudely worded open letter has been doing the rounds of the Internet ever since the release of Dhadak‘s new song ‘Zingat’. The song has been criticised for ‘Bollywood-ifying’ a perfectly fine Marathi song, that featured in the original movie Sairat.
While the open letter is anonymous, we couldn’t help but wonder if it was actor Ranveer Singh who was behind it. It’s a little far fetched, but take a look and see for yourself. We’ve had to censor most of the letter because of all the profanities, but here’s the gist of it.
AN EXCERPT FROM THE OPEN LETTER:
This open letter shall remain anonymous as I don’t want my popularity as the lead in Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl to affect people’s opinions after reading this. I am preparing to protest against the song ‘Zingaat’ along with my girlfriend, who shall also remain nameless since I don’t want her popularity as the lead actress in Happy New Year to affect people’s opinions.
After the release of the title track of Dhadak which was an obvious copy of my hit song ‘Tatad Tatad’, I was really looking forward to listening to the other songs but the latest song ‘Zingaat’ has left me disappointed. Again an obvious copy of my hit song ‘Khalibali’, this song is not able to deliver the emotions I did.
It’s not even about the fact that I feel incredibly insecure with all these young, beautiful people running around the industry. It’s about integrity. That song is a pale shadow in comparison to my hits and it seems unfair that the audience has to suffer through a mediocre song like this. I must stress that this is an anonymous open letter and the intention is not to hurt anyone’s sentiments.
