Noted film producer and director Karan Johar recently took a break from his quest to extract the essence of young blood for his Elixir of Youth for a second and planned a birthday bash for his twins.

Following the last two birthday parties, this one too had a theme.

“I’ve always maintained that you can manipulate the taste levels of your children from a very young age,” said Karan Johar, “This is why for their first birthday, the theme was ‘French food and other fancy stuff’, and the year following that was ‘Other things rich people like’.”

The Student of the Year director had a unique theme idea for this year. “All the reviews I read quickly on my Twitter feed told me that our favourite movie this year was the Korean film Parasite,” said Johar, “In fact me and my twins loved it so much that we decided to make it our party’s theme this year.”

The movie, directed by Bong Joon Ho, has been garnering critical acclaim and awards around the world and has been nominated for an Oscar too. It’s a thrilling take on class divide and social inequality in a capitalistic society.

According to Johar, the core message of the movie resonated with him deeply. “The class divide is really something that I have thought about ever since I was a kid,” he said, “I could totally relate to the central message of the movie, which is to not completely trust your house help. They might have tricked you into hiring them.”

He then went on to describe his vision for the party. “In the movie’s climax, there’s a kid’s birthday party, which was just perfect for us because we wanted the movie to be the theme of a kids’ party too.”

A number of star kids attended the party and were, reportedly, given custom made Gucci slides with the words ‘Parasite’ embroidered on them, along with matching robes and eye masks. The director had also flown in chefs from Korea to prepare a traditional 14 course Korean dinner. The guests were asked to not bring any gists but to donate money to Ananya Panday’s recently set up charity to support star kids whose parents haven’t been asked to appear on Koffee with Karan yet.

“I didn’t like the ending of the movie, so I didn’t include all the blood and gore in my party. It was just so tacky,” said Johar.
