Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming film Kabir Singh’s marketing team has made several efforts to make sure that people haven’t forgotten who the actor is and that he is still worth stalking on Instagram.
Little by little, a desensitised audience has been fed information about his life that nobody asked for, nor deserved. But he is a legitimate celebrity and, therefor, automatically worthy of our attention and time, more so than, say, thousands of people being terrorised in their own country by an oppressive military regime. For instance, in Sudan, an African country with nearly 40 million citizens, is facing a conflict between pro-democracy civilians and the country’s military forces. Civilian protestors in the capital city of Khartoum have been attacked by the military, with reports pouring in about mass killings and rapes. If you’ve been distracted by all the horrible news related to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, here are some Shahid Kapoor facts that we learnt this week that will do the perfect job of distracting you from all that negativity…
In the popular chat show that has more sponsors than good content, Shahid Kapoor revealed that he is better at sexting than his wife. Now this might not be enough to take away your focus from the fact that the crisis dates back to December 2018, when former Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir’s government imposed emergency measures to prevent an economic meltdown in the country. Food shortage and rising prices sparked demonstrations across the country, but you don’t have to worry about that. Shahid might be better at sexting, but he feels it’s a ‘give and take situation’ and married people don’t really need to sext. But because we brought it up, maybe you should know that this step forced Mr Bashir to step down from his role as the President.
When Shahid appeared on a comedy show, that is otherwise known as the stain on Indian television, he admitted that he apologises to Mira, no matter who amongst them is angry. This little kid bit of information is so cute, almost cute enough to avert your attention from the fact that ever since military forces have taken control of the transitional government in Sudan, protestors’ death toll has increased. Soldiers and paramilitary groups opened fire on a pro-democracy sit-in in Khartoum, leaving over 118 people dead.
So Sudan might slowly be slipping into a ‘human rights abyss’, but don’t let that spoil you from enjoying several pictures and detail reportage of Shahid and Mira heading out for a dinner date in casual clothes. Women are being raped, with their underwear hung as a symbol of pride and glory by the military forces in Sudan, with a state-imposed blackout preventing Sudanese activists and civilians to share what is happening with the rest of the world. But at least no such thing is going on our country and we can easily access images of a thoroughly regular looking couple going on a date.
In the same vapid chat show, where we found out about Shahid’s mastery of sexting over his wife, Shahid revealed that Mira does not like it when trolls attack their children. We thought this might make you think of the children and their safety in Sudan, where civilians are living in fear for their lives but don’t worry. We don’t have much information of that mostly because of the blackout we mentioned din the point above this.
The trailer for Kabir Singh, a remake of Telugu hit Arjun Reddy, shows Shahid as a volatile young college student. This fact made Shahid Kapoor really nervous as he felt that his kids would have trouble accepting him as a young college going student. Shahid thinks his kids will be OK with him playing an aggressively violent douchebag, but not that he is a college student. While this definitively indicates that Shahid Kapoor’s kids are smarter than the rest of the country, this also does not say anything about the fact that many Western countries have sided with the pro-democracy protestors in Sudan and the African Union, comprising of 55 member states, has voted to suspend Sudan until a civilian-led transitional authority is put in place.
